Description

Arguably opera's greatest composer, Verdi (1813-1901) was nearing the end of his career at the time of this elegant portrait, having recently debuted Falstaff. Yet he will always be best remembered for La Traviata and Aida. Verdi's photography session took place at the Parisian studio of Ferdinand Mulnier. Among the handwritten notations on reverse is one that reads, "Rec'd From Th Child," suggesting it could have belonged to the Verdi family. Regardless of its origins, what's most remarkable is the phenomenal preservation. Condition is crisp, sturdy, clean EX-MT with but a few errant lines above and to the left of Verdi. Dimensions are 4-1/4" x 6-1/2". Francophiles will appreciate the variety of back-side copyright info en français.
