Want to see a picture of Ruth and Gehrig in rodeo cowboy gear on this very day?
Click here. Twenty thousand fans showed up at Dexter Park in Queens to watch the '28 Yankees (a.k.a. Bustin' Babes) barnstorm against the semi-pro Brooklyn Bushwicks—and the Bushwicks won! It was Columbus Day, as noted in the period handwritten notations on the west and east panels of this heavily toned, scuffed and soiled Spalding ball. Ruth's sweet-spot signature is a light yet legible "2-3"-strength example. There may or may not be the wisps of a barely discernible Gehrig signature on the south panel. Full LOA from JSA.
