For the past five years, David Ortiz has consistently posted huge homerun and RBI numbers for the Boston Red Sox and has become a pop icon to the Red Sox Nation. Known as “Big Papi”, Ortiz was one of the heroes of the 2004 World Series Championship team, and most collectors covet his autograph. Presented is a ten-piece collection of David Ortiz memorabilia with nine single-signed, inscribed baseball and a game-used base from the 2007 season. The baseballs include (2) official World Baseball Classic balls signed on the side panel, both grading (“9”); (3) 2006 All-Star baseballs signed on the side panel beneath the logo, each grading (“10”); (3) single-signed OML balls signed on the sweet spot with the inscription ”Sox HR Leader” all grading (“10”) plus a game-used baseball from the game in which Ortiz collected his 1000th hit, which is signed on the sweet spot (“9”) and inscribed by the big man ”1000 hit game, HR #44, 2006” on the north panel, grading (“9”). The last piece in this collection is a game-used base from the May 14, 2007 game at Fenway Park in Boston. The game was the fifth win for the herald Japanese import Daisuke Matsuzaka. The base shows heavy game usage with obvious infield clay on the bag. The base has been signed and inscribed ”2007 Game Used” by Ortiz, although he was the DH that game. The signature is in blue marker and grades a (“7”). The two game-used items have letters of authenticity from Steiner, the (2) World Baseball Classic balls have JSA certificates and the remaining (6) signed baseballs have LOAs from Sports Images.
