Featured on these two original news service photographs are Christy Mathewson and Walter Johnson from the mid-1920s. The Mathewson photograph shows the aging “Matty” alongside four other Boston Braves personnel in 1923 when he was president of the Braves. The 8x6 black and white image is in VG condition with mild toning and an ink mark over the face of the man in the upper left quadrant. The Johnson photograph measures 6-1/2 x 10” and features the “Big Train” accepting the Loving Cup awarded him by his adorning fans. Handing Johnson the trophy is Nicholas Longworth with sixteen members of the 1927 Washington Senators behind Johnson. The Johnson photo is in VG-EX condition with two pinholes along the upper border. Both images have a Baseball Magazine original photograph sticker from the 1996 Christie’s auction on the reverse plus the original information tags.
