The offered advertising sign depicts New York Giants legend Mel Ott with his shotgun in hand and guilty pleasures at the ready. The shotgun shells on the table in front of Ott leave no doubt as to the activity being portrayed, but still, with a Christmas-themed message and ribbon images, this 11-1/2” x 20-3/4” cardboard advertisement for "Velvet" smoker's tobacco is suitable for framing. The piece displays a bright yellow background, eye-catching image of the spokesperson with the productand the name in sizable, angled white characters. Referring to Ott as the Giants "POPULAR MANAGER," the sign dates to 1942-1948. The relic does exhibit moderate wear with a crease along the hairline of Ott and a second crease and small tear in the lower portion near the bottom of the shotgun.
