Presented is a unique photograph featuring the father of American football and his star pupil. Glenn Scobey “Pop” Warner began his legendary coaching career at Georgia University in 1895 and continued teaching the game before retiring in 1938. During his illustrious career Warner pitted his teams against the best of the best including Knute Rockne and the Four Horseman. Warner coached thousands of players, but the greatest was Jim Thorpe. While at the Carlisle Indian Industrial School in 1907, the two legends met for the first time. Presented is a photograph of Pop Warner and Jim Thorpe, circa 1927, while Warner was filming Christy Walsh’s Pop Warner Stanford Football Shorts. This Type I news service photo is in excellent condition with only minor wear along the edges and two minor creases in the upper left quadrant. The information tag is adhered to the reverse of the image along with hand-written notes and a Culver Pictures tag (partially removed). Football fans and photograph collectors will rejoice when viewing this original wire photograph.
