Of paramount importance and exceptional beauty, this 1902 Sporting News W600 Denton “Cy” Young bests all other Young cardboard relics, save the E107, in the eyes of seasoned collectors. The offered exemplar was issued in the first year of this lengthy series from the Philadelphia-based Sporting Life publishers. The W600 Sporting Life Cabinet has become one of the hottest issues over the past years due to a combination of quality subjects, exemplary photography and increasing rarity. This exquisite PSA 5 example features a portrait of Cy Young in his uniform, captioned with his name, position and team designation. The black and white portrait of Cy Young is in stellar condition with the textured matte border exhibiting mild blemishes. The card is well centered but under strict scrutiny exhibits signs of light water damage along the left side. The reverse of this treasure is bright white with only mild wear evident on two of the four corners. With over (700) known players cards in the set, Cy Young is easily in the top five most difficult and desirable cabinet cards in the issue.
