Regionally issued cards are now the quintessential collectible from the 1950s, as collectors have found it nearly impossible to locate even a single example from sets such as the 1953 Hunter Wieners. Presented is a resplendent example of a complete box of 1953 Hunter Wieners with the two-card panel fully intact. The box features two players with Hall of Famer Red Schoendienst on the left and John Crimian on the right. The twenty-six card set features only St. Louis Cardinals, thus creating fantastic imagery with the bright red and white uniforms of the Redbirds. The box and cards are in excellent condition with only the mildest evidence of wear and a few minor paper wrinkles. The mere fact that the original function of the box was to package fresh meat products and so most were thrown in the trash made this a scarce relic. The difficulty of locating just the single card from the 1953 Hunter series is an achievement in and of itself, but to locate an original box is nirvana for the regional issue collector. The box, when folded, protected the hot dogs, and there is evidence of the once-contained dogs on the inside of the box. The fact that there is a Hall of Famer present, coupled with the high level of difficulty in locating this series, easily makes this overall (EX-MT) treasure a must have.
