The War to End All Wars reshaped the modern world, leaving millions dead in its wake, but it was only prelude to the Second World War a mere twenty years later. The presented assembly of Americana has a distant World War theme. The lot includes a typed-signed letter from Theodore Roosevelt, Jr. (d.1944, “6”) dated to January 30, 1918. Despite minor toning and evident folds, the letter is still appealing, remaining complete with no repairs. The lot also features a William McKinley (d.1901), 25th President, signed Executive Mansion calling card; signature grades (“8”). The card was framed and matted with a reproduced photo, measuring a combined 11x19. The final signed piece is a beautifully framed, matted and signed General John J. Pershing (d.1948, “9”) cut from a typed-signed letter. The frame measures 14x26 and features a period photo of the General known as Black Jack. Two very interesting full size World War I posters light up this assortment with a 26x37 1918 Gerrit Beneker Victory Liberty Loan ”Sure We’ll Finish the Job” poster (VG, several small tears around the edges) and a 27x40 1919 Howard Chandler Chrisey Victory Liberty Loans ”Americans All!” poster (VG, light paper loss and edge wear). The lot also features non-signed items including an off-grade 1917 edition of the Philadelphia Ledger with Woodrow Wilson on front (VG), 1919 printing of General Pershing’s Story (FR), sheet music for I Think We’ve Got Another Washington and Wilson is His Name (1915, VG-EX), (35) 1917-1919 Liberty Bond Club cards (some used, some unused), 1918 Gen. Pershing “Battlefields of France” 78 RPM vinyl record (VG), The United States in the Great War (1920, VG), (4) WWI toy soldiers on horseback with flags (painted lead, lightly chipped), one infantry lead toy soldier (VG-EX), (65) second generation WWII photographs (with D-Day invasion and Eisenhower) and a stunning 1919 The War of the Nations Portfolio (EX), featuring literally hundreds of military engravings within the 528-page hardback 11x16 book. The final six items are all army/air force base banners with (5) measuring 15x15 and the last measures 30x30 overall. The autographed items come with an auction COA from James Spence Authentications.
