Description

“First in war, first in peace, and last in the American League,” was the aphorism for the Washington Senators for many years. The Senators may have spent more time in the basement than a water heater, but the fans in Washington adored their team. Presented is a 16x28 framed display piece that features eleven cuts, two 1950 Callahan cards and three pictures. The cut signatures include President Herbert Hoover (d.1964, “8”), Bucky Harris (d.1977, “9”), Clark Griffith (d.1955, “8”), Walter Johnson (d.1946, traced), Cecil Travis (“9”), Sam Rice (d.1974, “8”), Fred Marberry (“7”), Kenesaw Landis (d.1944, “10”), Buddy Myer (d.1974, “10”), Roger Peckinpaugh (d.1977, “8”) and Goose Goslin (d.1971, “9”). The two Callahan cards are of Landis and Griffith, while the photos include images of Harris, Griffith Stadium and President Hoover tossing out the first pitch with Walter Johnson by his side. This is a breathtaking display piece, loaded with Hall of Famers, which will leave viewers in awe. COA from James Spence Authentications.
