This Charles “Swede” Risberg index card is a lasting memento from a Black Sox member who played an integral role in fixing the 1919 World Series. As one of the “eight men out”, Risberg permanently etched his name into baseball infamy. A key assistant to Chick Gandil, the slap-hitting shortstop batted a lowly .080 during the 1919 Fall Classic. This 3x5 index card was penned by Risberg (d.1975) in blue ink. Spanning the breadth of the index card, Risberg’s signature exhibits astrong (“9”) signature strength. Despite some moderate paper loss on the reverse, this detractor does not adversely affect the expansive signature. A difficult autograph from a controversial figure, this signed index card comes with a COA from James Spence Authentications.
