Roberto Clemente was in a class by himself; he did not hit homeruns like Babe Ruth but he hit them when it counted. He never hit over .360 but he won four batting titles. Twice he was a World Series champion, but most important he was one of the most genuine and kind people the game has ever known. Clemente remains so revered that since his untimely death in 1972, Major League Baseball annually has presented the Roberto Clemente Award (originally known as The Commissioner's Award), which recognizes the player who best exemplifies the game of baseball, sportsmanship, community involvement and an individual's contribution to his team. Presented is an extraordinary Roberto Clemente signed personal check that graded a PSA NM-MT 8. This extraordinary check is dated August 7, 1972, less than five months before the tragic plane crash on New Year’s Eve 1972. Always the humanitarian, Clemente was bringing supplies to earthquake victims in Nicaragua when his plane went down. This relic is superlative in scope and condition with a pristine signature and tremendous appeal. COA from James Spence Authentications.
