The 1959 Pittsburgh Pirates were just a year away from trumping the New York Yankees in the 1960 World Series, and many of the same players appear on this unique Players Association contract. The document is an agreement between the players and a baseball card company for the commercial usage of their names and pictures. The contract between the players and Robert Jaffe of Cleveland for a “Flip-Card” series ensured the players of their equal portion and subsequent royalties. The official document has been signed wonderfully by thirty-one players, coaches and trainers from the 1959 Pittsburgh Pirates including a flawless Clemente (d.1972, “10”). The other (30) signatures include Kluszewski (d.1988), Friend, Porterfield (d.1980), Skinner, Mejias, Mazeroski, Bright (d.2000), Oceak, Law, Burgess (d.1991), Nelson (d.2006), Kline (d.2002), Face, Kravitz, Detore (d.1991), Peterson (d.1995), Groat, Haddix (d.1994), Virdon, Hoak (d.1969), Daniels, Blackburn (d.1998), Burwell (d.1973), Witt, Gross, Stuart (d.2002), Schofield and one unidentified (probably a trainer). All of the signatures were penned in blue ink and each signature displays brilliantly, grading (“9-10”). This magnificent relic is in excellent condition and has been framed to the overall dimensions of 10-1/2 x 16” and is ready for immediate display. This fantastic artifact is truly a one-of-a-kind item that features a stunning Clemente signature as well as being a piece of history. COA from James Spence Authentications.
