Offered are two pairs of vintage baseball spikes in their original boxes from Hall of Famers Joe DiMaggio and Rabbit Maranville. The 1950 Joe DiMaggio “Baseball Shoes” were sold to aspiring players in a variety of colors. These lightly used size 10-1/2 black spikes with red stitching are accompanied by crisp and intact black laces and an inner sole which reveals DiMaggio’s facsimile endorsement. Also included is the original black box and lid (both GD, pencil notations, lid not original to box) which displays DiMaggio’s image endorsing the “baseball shoe” and a white twine display card/tag (VG) which exhibits the slugger following through on an unfortunate pitch. Also present is a pair of 1938 Rabbit Maranville baseball spikes. This Collegiate model 999 pair of black footwear has seen extensive use and is accompanied by frayed tan laces and a weathered and cracked inner sole. Manufactured by Hyde, the original box (VG) is intact and notates the original cost and purchase dates of these athletic shoes in black grease pencil. An attractive green twined Maranville tag (EX-MT) accompanies the pair. In addition to the spikes, a pre-war baseball, which appears to be from the late nineteenth century, is also present. The twine sphere has had a 4” portion of the fragile cloth covering removed. This vintage ball is well compacted and has survived the decades well. These artifacts are game accompaniments for the baseball memorabilia enthusiast.
