After the famous fight in which Cassius Clay (aka Muhammad Ali) bloodied the face of English boxer Henry Cooper, Clay became the top contender for the heavyweight title. On February 25, 1964, Clay got his title bout and subsequently won the title when Liston did not emerge for the seventh round. Offered is a vintage March 9, 1964 Sports Illustrated signed in blue marker, bottom center. Signed boldly “Cassius Clay” (“8-9”), there no doubt to collectors that this is a very rare item. The magazine is all there, but there are no longer any staples holding the pages together. This scarce Clay signature on this vintage magazine will garner much attention. COA from James Spence Authentications.
