As Topps second attempt into the football card industry, the 1951 Topps Magic set contained only (75) cards of colligate players. The “magic” of the cards was a thin metallic grey coating on the reverse of each card that was intended to be removed to disclose the university the player attended. All seventy-five cards in this set are without the metallic grey coating and otherwise grade GD to VG-EX with few better and some lesser. Included are #1 Monahan (VG-EX), #2 Wade (VG), #4 Parilli (PR-FR), #7 Scott (FR), #10 Janowicz (PR-FR), #12 Weatherall (FR), #19 Campbell (GD), #30 Rechicahar (GD), #37 Marlow (VG), #42 Smith (VG), #49 Young (VG), #53 Reynolds (GD), #72 Bright (VG) and #75 Carey (GD-VG). Although the set is technically off-grade, it does have an attractive overall presentation and is a complete early football issue.
