Since 1959 the Universiade, or World Student Games, have matched collegiate athletes from all parts of the world in various sporting events, including both summer and winter endeavors. Jo Jo White, who by his senior year at Kansas already made a name for himself as a collegiate, Olympian and Pan-American basketball player, earned a spot to play for the United States in the 1967 edition of the Universiade, held in Tokyo, Japan. Offered is the original gold medal presented to White after the USA won the basketball tournament. The gilded medal, which measures 2-1/2 inches in diameter, depicts three faces on the front and several of the sporting events, as well as the site and year, on the reverse. Featuring the original hanging-pendant, bow and band, the medal has survived surprising well and will certainly make for a superior display piece in any Celtics, Kansas or medal collection. Accompanied by a Letter of Authenticity signed by Jo Jo White.
