Card imagery and production have come a long way since Gum, Inc. issued their War Gum series in 1941. Presented is the original artwork for card #5 Admiral Ernest Joseph King from the set. Though this colorful work was never quite finished, it received a nice initial placement of paints that fully covered the basic pencil designs and would have received greater detailing and over-painting before publication. Despite its lack of a full finish, the artwork is very appealing and colorful, as are most of its brethren and the protective film overlay is present. The original painting is now mounted in a complementing matte with the surface area of the image measuring 5x6” with the frame doubling the overall size. This is a one-of-a-kind item from a very popular series, as most war issues are, and should not be passed over.
