Paper scorecards from the 19th Century survived in considerably smaller numbers than their cardboard baseball card counterparts due in part to the difference in paper stock and in part to the difficulty in storing these larger 5-1/5 x 7" ephemeral artifacts. The offered scorecards are in fine condition with each relic having been scored with some minor notations. Included are scorecards from 1878 Boston Red Caps vs. Providence with George Wright, Jim O’Rourke and Kid Nichols; 1879 Boston Red Caps vs. Buffalo in a game called after the third inning on account of rain; 1883 Boston Beaneaters vs. Philadelphia played during the Phillies first year in the league (they went an unimpressive 17-81) and lastly a fold-out scorecard from a game in 1885 pitting the Beaneaters against the Cubs, who featured Anson, Kelly and Clarkson in their line-up that day. The 1885 scorecard is the only card in this collection that was not produced by Harry Wright and is also in lesser grade (VG) than the other three in this lot (VG-EX).
