The 1953-1954 Briggs Meats series are among the most coveted and elusive “hot dog” cards. Bolstered by an unprecedented demand, this issue is at the apex of the fifties regional phenomenon. Released for wiener connoisseurs in the greater Washington DC area, a handful of cards from this twenty-eight card set are shortprinted, making an elusive collector’s item that much more difficult. The offered shortprinted Jackie Jensen/Walt Masterson panel is the undisputed key piece among Washingtonians. A fan favorite, the slugging Jensen grades (VG-EX) with only a pair of minor creases tracing through his stately image. The twirling Masterson also grades (VG-EX) with light edge and corner wrinkling. Presenting especially well for the series, the panel reverse reveals only a pair of creases, one of which protrudes onto the front. Additionally, only the surface of the Masterson bares any grease markings, while the flip exhibits negligible hot dog toning. The yellow type set amidst the luminescent red background carefully portrays the rich colors associated with this picturesque offering. Although collecting 1953-1954 Briggs Meats series is already an elusive endeavor, this Jensen/Masterson panel escalates that scarcity to a new level.
