Despite a second place finish in the American League, the 1940 edition of the Boston Red Sox boasted a lineup and coaching staff with six Cooperstown inductees. This team signed baseball exhibits four of those Hall of Famers, including “The Beast”, “Teddy Ballgame” and “Sir Hugh”. Signed on a horsehide City League baseball, these 14 autographs are all legible and maintain a (“7-8”) signature strength. Preserved by a wafer-thin coating of shellac, this ball has been signed in a lighter black ink. Included are Sweet Spot: Foxx (d.1967, “8”); West Panel: D. Dimaggio, Cronin (d.1984, “6” ), Lupien (d.2004); East Panel: Wagner (d.2006), Tabor (d.1953), Peacock (d.1981); North Panel: Y. Terry (d.1979), T. Williams (d.2002, “7”), Desautels (d.1994), Heving (d.1970); South Panel: Daly (d.1946), Duffy (d.1954, “8”) and Finney (d.1966). This artifact comes with a COA from James Spence Authentications.
