Three years before being embroiled in the infamous Black Sox controversy, Eddie “Knuckles” Cicotte endured a turbulent but successful 1916 season. Depicted on this M101-4 Sporting News blank-backed card from that year, this Cicotte reveals the pitcher en route to leading the American League in winning percentage. Graded a “70” by SGC, this sepia-toned ace appears at the peak of the assigned technical grade. With pinpoint centering and minor corner wear, this maestro of pitching deception is portrayed following through a patented heave. The highest of three Cicottes graded by SGC, this keepsake is an intricate portrayal of a controversial figure.
