Description

Presented is a tremendous signed relic from the 1944 New York Yankees on an OAL Harridge baseball. The Yankees, depleted in 1944 with most of their stars serving the country during World War II, were left to defend their reputation with youngsters and those past their prime. The signatures on this ball are very crisp and have weathered the years remarkably well, grading (“8”) or better in strength. Included are Joe McCarthy (d.1978, “9”) and Johnny Lindell on the sweet spot with the difficult signatures of Paul Waner (d.1965, “8”), Tiny Bonham (d.1949) and George Stirnweiss (d.1958). The remaining signatories are Etten (signed thrice), Roser, Borowy, Derry, Schultz, Savage, Milosevich, Rip Collins, J. Johnson, Dubiel, Bevans, Zuber, Donald (clubhouse), H. Martin, Stainback, Grimes, Schreiber, Queen, Garbark, Turner, Metheny, Steineke and Nuen. The ball itself is mildly toned and lightly shellacked with “1944 New York Yankees” added to the west panel. The ball comes with dual LOAs from James Spence Authentications and PSA/DNA.
